Most day trips out of Venice go to one place — the Dolomites, or Lake Como from Milan, or a single Veneto town. This route puts a Roman-founded city and a lake peninsula on the same ticket, so a short Venice stay does not force a choice between Verona and Lake Garda.

A guided walk, not a coach-window glimpse

Verona is covered on foot with a guide: through the market colonnade of Piazza delle Erbe, past the red-brick outer wall of the Roman Arena, and into the courtyard on Via Cappello where Juliet's balcony draws a crowd — the city at street level, not through glass.

A boat, not just a lakeside stop

Plenty of Verona day trips mention Lake Garda and mean a viewpoint or a gelato stand. This one puts you on a private boat that circles the Sirmione peninsula, with the moated Scaliger Castle and the Grotte di Catullo Roman ruins passing close on the water.

One coach, one route, one return

The whole day runs on a single fixed departure from Mestre and a single route home — no rail transfers to plan, no working out which local bus reaches Sirmione. The trade is a schedule you do not control, for not having to build the logistics yourself.

Two postcards, one day

The day splits cleanly into two places and two ways of seeing them — Verona on foot, then Sirmione from the water and on foot again. Here is roughly what each one gets you.

Verona

Piazza delle Erbe, the Arena's outer wall, Juliet's balcony

The coach from Mestre takes about seventy-five minutes. The guided walk covers Verona's old town on foot: the market stalls and medieval column of Piazza delle Erbe, the red-brick outer arches of the Roman Arena from the street (entry tickets are separate and not part of this booking), and the courtyard on Via Cappello where Juliet's balcony draws the crowds for a photo. It is enough time to see the historic centre properly — not enough for a long, sit-down lunch.

Sirmione

A private boat around the castle, then the old town on your own

The drive along Lake Garda's southern shore takes about fifty minutes. A private boat then circles the Sirmione peninsula, passing close to the Scaliger Castle's water-filled moat and the Grotte di Catullo — Roman-villa ruins at the peninsula's tip, long (and wrongly) linked to the poet Catullus. What is left of the stop is free time: the cobbled centre, the shops, or somewhere for gelato by the water before the coach back.

Verona to Sirmione is about 42km — roughly fifty minutes on the A4, longer if you catch the evening slowdown around Verona Sud.

Where you're collected

The meeting point is the Hotel Plaza Venice, on Viale Stazione next to Venezia Mestre train station — not a spot in central Venice, and not the Tronchetto car-park island some Venice day trips use. If you're staying on the islands, budget time to reach Mestre by train, bus or tram before the coach departs.

Roughly half the day is on the road

Between the outbound drive to Verona, the leg on to Sirmione, and the return to Mestre, the coach accounts for a large share of the roughly ten-hour day. That is the trade for covering two separate destinations — a Verona-only day trip would spend far less of its time moving.

What's included, and what is not

The listing includes a tour leader, the private boat cruise with its own captain, air-conditioned transport throughout, and audio headsets for larger groups. Entry tickets for anything you might want to go inside — the Arena, Juliet's House, the Grotte di Catullo — are not included, and neither is lunch; the free time in Sirmione is when most people eat.

Planning your day

Get to Mestre with time to spare

The coach leaves from Hotel Plaza Venice next to Mestre train station, not from the Venice islands. If you're staying near St Mark's or the Rialto, allow enough time for the vaporetto and a train, tram or bus connection before an 8:30am departure — arriving at the meeting point flustered is a bad way to start a ten-hour day.

Bring cash or a card for entry tickets

Nothing at the Arena, Juliet's House or the Grotte di Catullo is included in this booking. If you want to go inside any of them rather than see the outside, budget separately and check opening hours in advance, since a fixed group schedule leaves little room to queue.

Watch the sky before the boat

The Sirmione cruise is the one part of the day that depends on the lake, and a weather cancellation is not refunded. There is little to do about this on the day itself, but a rough forecast the night before is worth a look.

Eat in Sirmione, not on the coach

Lunch is not included, and the free time in Sirmione's old town is the natural place to find it — the peninsula has plenty of options within a short walk of where the boat returns you.
